Vol. 213 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Married Quarters for Soldiers.

49.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Defence the number of soldiers on the waiting list for married quarters in Dublin city; the last date upon which new married quarters were built in Dublin city; and when additional married quarters will be provided.

There are 97 men on the waiting list for married quarters in Dublin city.

A scheme of 88 houses in McKee Park (Blackhorse Avenue) was completed in 1956. The policy of providing new houses at centres where the need is greatest is being maintained but it cannot be indicated when a further scheme will be undertaken in Dublin. Work is expected to commence at an early date on the erection of 20 houses at Athlone and when those houses are nearing completion consideration will be given to the needs of Dublin and other centres in the light of the circumstances then obtaining.
