Vol. 214 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Leitrim River.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance what progress has been made in regard to the surveying of the Bonet River which has been damaging land and crops from Dromahair via Corrigeencor to Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, and from there to Glenade Lake, as the people affected are small farmers and can ill afford to suffer continuous flooding; and when drainage work will commence.

About one third of the survey of the Bonet catchment has been done, and it is hoped to complete the survey this year. Work on the design of a scheme will then be put in hands, and if an economic scheme can be produced, the requirements of the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, as regards exhibition etc., will have to be complied with. I cannot, at this stage, state a date for commencement of works.
