Vol. 214 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Cars: Exemptions from Traffic Regulations.

19.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government whether cars assigned to Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are exempt from no parking and speed limit traffic regulations.

Cars assigned to Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are not specifically mentioned in any of the exceptions or savers from the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) Regulations, 1963, the Road Traffic General Bye-laws, 1964, and the various local parking bye-laws. There are, however, exemptions for vehicles used by members of the Garda Síochána which might be held to apply to them.

Mr. Ryan

Will the Minister say how he expects ordinary members of the public to respect parking regulations when State cars are flouting them?

How low can you get.

Mr. Ryan

Is the Minister aware that on my way into town this morning, I saw a long line of cars held up because a State car was parked on the mat near a crossing light while the lady in question was doing her shopping?

You are a very tawdry little man.

Why do you not get out your notebook?

Mr. Ryan

There are no answers to the question. You are flouting the law.
