Vol. 216 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of EEC.

1.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Taoiseach whether the latest statement of the British Prime Minister further qualifying Britain's attitude towards entry into the EEC and re-emphasising Mr. Gaitskell's original objection regarding freedom to trade on a preferential basis with Commonwealth countries has altered the Government's assumption that the Republic will be admitted to the EEC by 1970.

The answer to the Deputy's question is in the negative. I do not consider that the statement of the British Prime Minister to which the question refers involves any change in the situation.
