Vol. 216 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employees of State-sponsored Companies.

21.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has under consideration the introduction of legislation to restrict managements of State-sponsored companies from locking-out employees.

I have not under consideration the introduction of legislation of the type mentioned by the Deputy.

Would the Minister agree that the inconvenience and suffering imposed on the innocent public, the damage to the national economy and the financial losses to the State-sponsored companies concerned——

This is a separate matter.

These are matters which ought to weigh against the use of the lock-out.

Question No. 22.

Would the Minister reconsider his attitude in regard to the need for legislation?

It does not arise on this question.

I am asking the Minister whether he would reconsider his attitude on the need for legislation.

I have told the Deputy it does not arise.

I am asking him whether he has considered these matters in coming to his decision not to do anything about it. If that does not appear relevant——

The Deputy will not argue with the Chair.

The Deputy might be locked out.
