Vol. 216 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Meat Board.

41.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has given any consideration to the establishment of a national meat board; and if he has under consideration any plans for a subsidy to help the lamb export trade on similar lines to that at present being operated with carcase beef.

I understand that some sectors of the industry have had discussions on the question of a meat board and I will of course examine any proposal that may be put to me by the industry. In the meantime it would be premature for me to reach conclusions.

As regards the second part of the question, there are no such plans under consideration at present.
