Vol. 217 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drift Net Fishing Licences.

23.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the number of drift net fishing licences issued by the Foyle Fishery Commission to fishermen fishing between Quigley's Point and Culmore Point on Lough Foyle; and (a) the number of such licences issued to County Donegal fishermen, and (b) the number issued to Six County fishermen.

I am advised by the Foyle Fisheries Commission that it is not possible to give precisely the information sought in the first part of the question: the £12 drift net licence once issued is available for fishing in any part of the Lough or of the open sea. Of the 79 persons issued with £12 drift net licences for 1965, 49 are residents of County Donegal and 30 are residents of Counties Derry, Down or Tyrone. Of the latter 27 live in Derry city or Culmore.
