Vol. 217 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Outdoor Nursing Services.

28.

asked the Minister for Health if he is in a position to make any statement on the report dealing with the reorganisation of the Cork Health Authority's outdoor nursing services, proposals in relation to which were sent to his Department some months ago.

I agree in principle with the Cork Health Authority's proposals for the reorganisation of their outdoor nursing services. However, the authority propose to appoint a considerable number of additional permanent public health nurses and, in view of the general difficulty in obtaining suitably trained candidates for such posts, I deferred conveying my decision to the health authority on their proposal.

I have the question of the provision of suitable training courses for existing public health nurses and for candidates for such posts under active consideration and I hope to resolve the matter shortly when I will be in a position to reply fully to the health authority.
