Vol. 217 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Swimming Pools.

40.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the swimming pool at the Willie Pearse Memorial Park, Crumlin, which has been approved by his Department, is likely to be proceeded with; if the proposal by the school authorities at Saint Mary's School of the Blind, Merrion, to provide a pool has been proceeded with; and if there are any other proposals for the provision of swimming pools in Dublin city.

I understand that the corporation will proceed with the provision of a swimming pool at Crumlin and that they are considering the provision of pools in six other areas in the city. In the case of the pool for Crumlin, I am awaiting the submission by the corporation of revised plans at reduced cost.

I have approved of the making of a contribution by the corporation towards the provision of a pool at St. Mary's School and Home for the Blind, Merrion, and I understand that the proposal is being proceeded with.

I am informed that Dublin Corporation are prepared to contribute to voluntary groups providing swimming pools sums not exceeding in toto £100,000 in any one year. Contributions by Dublin City or County Councils towards other pools provided by voluntary bodies have been approved or are receiving consideration in three cases, namely:—The Marian College, Ballsbridge, St. Mary's School for the Deaf, Cabra; and St. John of God Day School, Islandbridge.

Could the Minister indicate where are the other six places he mentioned earlier in his reply?

I am afraid I have not got them at the moment.
