Vol. 217 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stamp Vending Machines.

74.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the present situation in relation to the proposal for the introduction of stamp book vending machines; whether new books have been designed or produced; and when and where the first machines will be installed.

There has been no change in the position since my reply of 16th June to a similar question.

Can the Minister give us any indication of when he hopes to get this expert advice?

As I told the Deputy on 16th June, we are anxious to ensure that the machines will work efficiently before we instal them. The Deputy can easily visualise the importance of their being tried out. A prototype is being tested.

Can the Minister give us any idea when the prototype is likely to be passed or rejected?

As soon as it is found to be working at maximum efficiency, it will be installed. The Deputy can appreciate that an automatic vending machine operated by high denomination coins could be very troublesome, if it were not working efficiently. People cannot afford to push in halfcrowns and lose them.
