Vol. 217 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Conditions of Forestry Workers.

13.

asked the Minister for Lands when he intends to introduce legislation which will provide forestry workers with a pension scheme, sickness pay and three weeks' holidays with pay.

With the exception of the question of superannuation, the matters to which the Deputy refers are issues as to the conditions of employment of forestry workers which would not involve legislation. These questions are the subject of periodic representations by the trade unions concerned. They have in fact been raised again recently. The trade unions have not yet received a formal reply to these recent representations. In that situation I do not feel that it would be proper for me to make any statement in the House at the moment on any of these matters.

We can expect a reply in the not too distant future, I presume?
