Vol. 218 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Housing.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to sanction the proposal from Cork County Council for the erection of non-municipal houses at Dunmanway, County Cork.

37.

andMr. M.P. Murphy asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received proposals for sanction from Cork County Council for the erection of non-municipal houses at Timoleague and Ring, County Cork; and, if so, if he will expedite sanction to ensure the early commencement of the building work.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 36 and 37 together.

The proposals of Cork County Council for the provision of eight houses at Dunmanway and six houses at Timoleague were discussed recently by technical officers of my Department with officers of the county council. Arising out of these discussions the possibility of improving the layout of both schemes is being examined.

In regard to the four-house scheme at Ring, the council are being requested to furnish additional information with particular reference to the sewering of the site by a septic tank.

Am I to assume that the Minister is not satisfied with the layout plans of these schemes and that now they are to be examined again—more delaying tactics? Is that the right interpretation?

That is the act.

It is not that I am dissatisfied; my technical advisers are dissatisfied and they have discussed it with the technical advisers of the council, and between them, arising from the discussions, they have decided that there appears to be a possibility of improving the layout and that possibility is now being examined.

Will the Minister not agree that no time should be lost on the three schemes as applicants are waiting to move into these houses? They have been waiting a long time.

If that is so, why was something not done about it earlier?

It has gone up to the Minister now.
