Vol. 218 No. 2

The particulars requested are contained in a tabular statement which I propose, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.

(a) Acquired compulsorily.

(b) Purchased by agreement or by public auction.

NOTE: Estates marked with an asterisk have already been partly allotted.

87.

asked the Minister for Lands what is the present position in regard to the Tong Estate, Wood-of-O, Tullamore, County Offaly; and when it is hoped that these lands will be divided amongst the deserving applicants.

This 224 acre property has been acquired by the Land Commission. Pending completion of the necessary inquiries on the ground, it is not possible to forecast just now when the scheme of division will be formulated.

88.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position in regard to the estate of the late Martin J. O'Rourke, Rushin, Mountrath, County Laois; and if these lands will be divided amongst the local applicants during the coming year.

Agreement on price has been reached in this case but because of the death of one of the owners it is not possible at present to indicate when the lands will be taken over; there is hope that arrangements for possession may soon be concluded.

89.

asked the Minister for Lands the present position in regard to the estate of William Conroy (Hipwell), Oldtown, Portlaoise, County Laois (Record No. S.22800); and if these lands will be divided amongst the local applicants during the coming year.

It is still too early to indicate when allotment of this 295-acre property will be feasible but there will be no avoidable delay.

90.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the estate of Séamus Burke, Garryheather, Clonaslee, County Laois, which was sold to the Land Commission; and if arrangements can be made to have the lands allotted to the local applicants during the coming spring.

Though price agreement has been reached it has not so far been found possible to secure possession of these lands owing to the inability of the owner to obtain alternative accommodation. Accordingly the question of allotment does not yet arise.

91.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there are many applicants anxious to obtain land on the seventy-five acre farm of Mr. Christopher Mooney, at Gowlands, Monasterevan, County Laois; and that the owner has offered it to the Land Commission but they will not purchase it; and if he will ask that this case be re-considered in the light of the fact that many local smallholders and others are anxious to obtain this land from the Land Commission.

Following a detailed inspection of this farm on the ground some months ago, the Land Commission decided not to move for its purchase, the property being considered unsuitable, under the headings of quality and character, for the purposes of the Land Acts. I understand that it is not proposed to re-open the matter.
