Vol. 218 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Housing.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether proposals have been received by him for the approval of a site for the building of houses at Ardfinnan, Clonmel, County Tipperary: and whether in view of the urgent need for the provision of houses at Ardfinnan he will sanction the proposals as a matter of urgency.

The Tipperary (South Riding) Compulsory Purchase (No. 2) Order, 1965 which proposes the acquisition of about four acres for road widening and the erection of cottages in Ardfinnan is the subject of a public local inquiry which is being held in Clonmel today.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position regarding the provision of much-needed housing at Newcastle, Clonmel, County Tipperary.

I understand that the housing authority are in process of acquiring a 3¾ acre site which will cater for the present and prospective housing needs of the Newcastle area.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government what progress has been made in resolving difficulties which have arisen in regard to the building of eight cottages on the estate of the Duke of St. Albans. Newtownanner, Clonmel, County Tipperary.

I assume that the site to which the Deputy refers is a site of three acres at Farranjordan which was included in the Tipperary (South Riding) County Council Compulsory Purchase (Labourers Acts) (No. 2) Order, 1963. The order was confirmed by me as respects this site on 23rd February, 1965. An application has been made to the High Court to have the order quashed in so far as it relates to the site. I understand that the application has not yet been heard by the High Court.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary give any indication when these proceedings may take place? The delay is causing acute hardship. Can he assist in expending the proceedings?

I shall talk to the Minister about it.
