Vol. 218 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Letterbox.

69.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the installation of a letterbox as soon as possible at Ballyadams. County Laois as the residents have to travel four miles to Ballylinan, three miles to Ballintubbest or six miles to Stradbally.

There has been no previous request for a letterbox at the place mentioned. I shall communicate with the Deputy when my inquiries in the matter have been completed.

The Minister does agree that a case can be made for the erection of a letterbox?

We deal with each case on its merits. Generally in the case of such matters as letterboxes it is a question of priorities and unless these letterboxes are absolutely essential I prefer to have the staff engaged on other types of work.

Many residents in Ballyadams have to travel four miles to Ballylinan, three miles to Ballintubbest or six miles to Stradbally to post a letter. If those facts are established will the Minister undertake to have a letterbox erected?

If there are enough of them; there might be only a few.

Perhaps the Minister can get a secondhand one. He will not be able to afford a new one.

The Minister will not expect them to accumulate five years post?
