Dáil Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 3 Nov 1965

Vol. 218 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - PR Electoral System.

2.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Taoiseach whether the statement of the Minister for Finance favouring the abolition of the proportional representation method of election made to members of the University Philosophical Society of Trinity College, Dublin foreshadows any Government legislation on the matter.

The introduction of legislation to amend the Constitution with the object of abolishing the proportional representation system of election to Dáil Éireann is not, at present, envisaged by the Government.

Hear, hear. It was a pity he got so much publicity.

It is a good system.
