Vol. 218 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois Water Supplies.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to give sanction to the Laois County Council for a loan of £36,000 to finance water main extensions in the county; if he will explain the delay in giving sanction to it in view of the urgency of all these works in the county; and if he will communicate with the county council on the matter.

The Laois County Council's application for a loan of £36,000 is at present under consideration. The proposals to which this loan relates include both water supply schemes and sewerage schemes extensions. While plans for one sewer extension have been approved, plans for other extensions have not yet been submitted. The water supply extension plans which were received in my Department on 16th September, are at present being examined by my Department's technical advisers. Until this examination has been completed, I will not be in a position to say when approval will be given to the loan.
