Vol. 219 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Taxation of American Pensions.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make arrangements not to tax American pensioners who come to retire in this country, as the tax that is now being imposed is responsible for keeping hundreds of retired pensioners out of this country.

The suggestion in the Deputy's question is one which has been made to my predecessor on a number of occasions. I shall look at the matter again but the Deputy will appreciate the difficulty of exempting American pensions while pensions from other foreign sources and domestic pensions remain liable to tax.
