Vol. 220 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improved Industrial Grants.

41.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is his intention to provide improved grants for new industries in order to counteract the effect of the British grants recently announced.

42.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the improvements in incentives for the establishment of industry in Britain and Northern Ireland; and if he will now recommend to the Government the expansion of present incentives here.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 41 and 42 together.

I have seen Press reports of the improvements in grant incentives mentioned by the Deputies but the grant incentives offered here still compare favourably with grants offered in Britain and Northern Ireland. I have no reason to believe that the incentives at present being offered here are inadequate but I am keeping the position under review.
