Vol. 225 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick City Traffic Fines.

98.

asked the Minister for Justice the total amount collected in fines for parking wrongly and for exceeding the speed limit in the Limerick city and county area during the past 12 months.

Separate statistics are not compiled of fines imposed by the courts for parking offences and breaches of speed-limit regulations.

The total amount remitted to my Department in respect of the operation of the "fines-on-the-spot" scheme in Limerick city for the 12 months ended 30th September, 1966, was £3,914. It is estimated that a further £480 was collected in the month of October.

In the year ended 30th September, 1,003 detections of breaches of the speed limits were made by the Garda in Limerick city and county. Up to 27th October, a further 115 detections were made. Proceedings were instituted in 600 cases, some of which are still pending. Fine totalling £784 5s. were imposed in the cases already disposed of by the courts.
