Vol. 225 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Houses.

17.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government when Cavan County Council will provide a house for a person (name supplied) who is living with his wife and four children aged three years to 14 years in a three-roomed house which is condemned.

18.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on the inability of Cavan County Council to provide a house for a person (name supplied) who has been recommended for a house by the county medical officer of health.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 17 and 18 together.

I understand from Cavan County Council that it is their intention to provide cottages to accommodate the two persons named by the Deputy, that in the case of the person referred to in Question No. 17 it was proposed to provide a cottage in a grouped scheme but this proposal is being reconsidered by the housing authority and that in the other case efforts to acquire a suitable site are being continued. I am not in a position to say when work on the erection of the cottages will be commenced.

(Cavan): Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that every scheme for the provision of houses submitted from County Cavan to the Minister's Department is referred back for reconsideration and will he see to it that this delay is cut out and that houses in cases of absolute urgency like this are provided?

Has not the local authority decided to re-investigate the position in regard to the provision of an alternative house for the person concerned?

(Cavan): In Question No. 17?

In Question No. 17.
