Vol. 225 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Cottages.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will ascertain from Dublin County Council what steps are proposed to repair and improve the roadway and footpaths at Turnapin Cottages, Cloghran, County Dublin; and if he will have the open ditch, running from Turnapin Cross to the cottages, piped, as it is used as a dump by passing motorists and is causing an evil-smelling health hazard to the 300 residents.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government when sewerage service will be made available at Turnapin Cottages, Cloghran, County Dublin.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 19 and 20 together.

I understand from Dublin County Council that they have no proposals under consideration for the improvement of the roadway at Turnapin Cottages, which is considered to be in good repair, but that they intend to carry out any necessary repairs to the footpaths there within the next few months.

As regards the sewerage scheme, I am informed that, while the contractor is ready to commence work, difficulties have arisen in relation to the acquisition of wayleaves, which necessitate alteration in the plans. It is understood that the council are preparing revised plans, and that they propose to amend the approved scheme further to enable provision to be made for additional local authority housing contemplated in the area.

When the sewerage scheme is completed, it is proposed to pipe the water, at present discharging into the roadside ditch, into the new sewer.

This obviously means further delay in this much delayed scheme. Could the Minister not give an approximate date as to when sewerage services will be provided at Turnapin?

I am afraid I cannot give you that specific information. The wayleaves are apparently the cause of this delay and will cause as a result some change in the plans. I cannot tell you.

Surely the wayleave difficulties are easily overcome?

The trouble is, as the Deputy said, further delays are now taking place. I am informed that the cause of this delay is the acquisition of wayleaves. How long it will take to get over that I cannot tell the Deputy at the moment.

Will it be before June next year?

I should imagine that is quite possible; it could be started before June.

There will be a local election before then.

I am sure the Minister for Local Government will be glad to have it started before June.

It has been going on for 28 years.
