Vol. 225 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Benefit Inquiries.

72.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that officers of his Department are asking for returns relating to agricultural produce from recipients of social welfare benefits; and if he will take steps to have this practice discontinued.

Claimants for and recipients of social assistance which is subject to a means test and who are occupiers of land may be required to furnish particulars of receipts from the sale of agricultural produce in order that an accurate and objective assessment of their yearly means may be made. It is not proposed to discontinue this practice.
