Vol. 225 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meat Export Subsidy.

9.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries when he expects that the 25,000 tons of meat on which United Kingdom deficiency payments are made under the terms of the Trade Agreement will have been exported; and if it is the intention of the Irish Government to continue this subsidy payment on meat exports in excess of this quantity.

The 25,000 tons relates to each full 12-month period. The appropriate quantity for the nine-month period from the coming into operation of the Free Trade Area Agreement to the end of the British fatstock year next March is 18,750 tons. It is expected that this latter quantity will have been supplied by the end of December, 1966.

It was announced some months ago that the Government will support any quantities of eligible beef exported to Britain in excess of the quantity on which support is payable by Britain under the Free Trade Area Agreement.

At approximately the same rates?

Probably.
