Vol. 227 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - National Debt.

69.

asked the Minister for Finance the total national debt at the latest available date; and the cost of servicing it.

The total national debt at 31st March, 1966, the latest date for which full figures are available, was £715 million.

The cost of servicing the national debt in the current financial year is estimated at £56.3 million.

That is the figure for 31st March, 1966, and may we take it that there would have been another £50 million to £60 million borrowed since then?

A bit more. The figure for total Government borrowing for this year is given in a reply to a written question today.
