Vol. 227 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of SDA Loans.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay in the paying out of SDA loans to approved applicants seeking to purchase houses in Dublin city and county.

I am not aware that there is any undue delay in the payment of house-purchase loans by either Dublin Corporation or Dublin County Council. Payment is, I understand, normally made by both authorities within a few days after the relevant legal and other formalities are completed.

Is the Minister aware that many building contractors in Dublin will not accept a loan from Dublin Corporation or Dublin County Council because of the long delays and because of the small valuation put on houses by these authorities, particularly the county council.

There are no delays.

Why do the builders refuse the loans then and will only accept a loan from building societies?

I do not believe they do.

Well, I know it. I would not say it if I did not know it and I think the Minister knows it.

I do not know it and I do not believe it.

Will the Minister believe it if he is furnished with the names and addresses of people concerned?

There are no delays, if the legal and other formalities are completed. If the Deputy has specific cases in mind he should furnish the information to me.

I will gladly give the Minister particular cases.

I will also give him a list of contractors who refuse a loan from these authorities, if he does not know about it.
