Vol. 228 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Refuse Dumping.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the considerable nuisance and grave danger to public health caused by the use by unauthorised persons of the seashore skirting the Baldoyle-Portmarnock road, Dublin, as a dump for old motor car bodies and refuse of all kinds; and if he will have immediate and effective steps taken to put this area in a presentable condition and to ensure that all possible precautions are taken to bring this undesirable practice to an end.

I am informed by Dublin County Council that the unauthorised dumping on the Baldoyle-Portmarnock Road is not regarded as a danger to health. I understand however that the council intend to extend in the area mentioned the fence which they erected last year along the roadway as being the most effective method likely to stop this practice. I also understand that the Garda have intimated to the council that special attention was being paid by them to this matter through their mobile and foot patrols.

It is a matter for the county council to consider the use of the powers conferred on them by the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, to prevent unauthorised dumping.
