Vol. 229 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Schoolhouse.

35.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that an old schoolhouse at Carrowcannon, Falcarragh, County Donegal, condemned and disused since 1949, is now being used by the pupils attending Carrowcannon national school; and that great dissatisfaction has been caused among the parents of the said pupils as a result; and, if so, if he will ensure that a prefabricated room will be erected adjoining the present comparatively new school before next September.

Mr. O'Malley

I am aware that one classroom in the old schoolhouse at Carrowcannon, Falcarragh, is temporarily being used to accommodate the additional pupils attending Carrowcannon national school. Before it was put to temporary use repairs were carried out and flush toilets provided.

Arrangements have already been made with the Office of Public Works to carry out an inspection of the school accommodation in Carrowcannon and to furnish recommendations as to the future provision which should be made.

May I assume that if the inspectors, having inspected the present situation, are satisfied that the user of the old school to the extent of one classroom is inimical to the health of the children, the Minister will consider putting up a temporary wooden additional room until the final dispositions have been attended to? Will the Minister promise that?

Mr. O'Malley

Yes.

I have a special interest in Carrowcannon.
