Vol. 229 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Demolition of Habitable Houses.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to give Dublin Corporation power to prohibit the demolition of sound habitable houses.

As I indicated recently. I am considering the question of legislation to control the demolition of habitable houses. I am not yet in a position to say when such legislation will be introduced.

In the meantime, I have arranged to amend the regulations made under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, so as to deal with the problem of demolition of buildings, including houses, of architectural or historical interest. Copies of the amending regulations will be available next week.

Is the Minister prepared to adopt the simple expedient of deleting the words "and demolition" from the relevant Order made by the Minister for Local Government under the Town Planning Act?

I see. There your are. The steel balls are working at full blast to knock the houses down while the Minister dithers.
