Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Community Centre.

49.

asked the Minister for Local Government what steps he proposes to take to facilitate the provision of an adequate community centre at Ballyfermot, Dublin.

The provision of such facilities is a matter for Dublin Corporation who have adequate powers to provide a community centre or to assist other bodies to do so.

While the Corporation may have adequate powers, does the Minister not consider that he might provide them with adequate finance, or help to do so, particularly in regard to this very populous area of Ballyfermot, with which he is not unacquainted? Does he not agree that a proper community centre is an urgent need here and, in the light of the fact that it is very much a neglected area from this point of view, that he should consider making a grant available to help the development of Ballyfermot by helping the corporation to provide a community centre and these modern requirements?

I have not been asked for a grant.

If you are, will you consider it?

We will wait until we are asked.
