Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Investment in Building Societies.

126.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce how the ratio between what the investor gets from, and what the borrower pays to, building societies in this country compares with that in England.

The margin between the published investment and mortgage rates of the major Irish building societies is 3½ per cent at present, but I understand that the effective margin is narrower. I am informed that the British societies are working on a published margin of 3 per cent.
