Vol. 231 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grant to Retiring Army Personnel.

41.

asked the Minister for Defence the present cash grant in lieu of a suit given to Army personnel on retirement; and if he will increase it to bring it in line with the current cost of a presentable and wearable new suit.

Personnel on discharge or on transfer to the Reserve Defence Force must surrender their uniforms and leave barracks in civilian attire. Most men possess such attire in the normal course and the allowance payable in lieu, at present £8, is in the nature of compensation. The amount of this allowance is under examination.
