Vol. 232 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Water and Sewerage Schemes.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give approval to Kerry County Council for the Emlaghmore water scheme, County Kerry, which is urgently needed for the development of tourism in the area and for the improvement of the milk quality for the small farmers.

A decision on the Emlaghmore water supply scheme must await the outcome of the review of water and sewerage schemes in planning which is at present being carried out by sanitary authorities generally throughout the country.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will grant immediate approval for the Valentia water scheme, County Kerry, from near Portmagee, as the island people are greatly inconvenienced by the lack of water.

The Valentia water supply scheme, together with a number of regional water supply schemes in County Kerry and elsewhere, is included in the review of regional schemes which is at present being carried out by sanitary authorities generally throughout the country.

A decision in its respect must await the outcome of this review.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give approval for the water extension from the Lispole scheme to Ballinasare and adjoining areas near Annascaul, County Kerry.

On the 26th July, 1967, Kerry County Council were advised by my Department that their proposal for a water supply extension to Ballinasare was uneconomic because of the expectionally high unit cost. I am informed by the council that extensions to areas adjoining Ballinasare would also be prohibitive in cost due to the sparsity of the houses and the distances involved.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received any proposals from Kerry County Council to carry out a sewerage scheme at Currow, County Kerry; and if so, what is the present position in the matter.

There are no proposals before my Department for a sewerage scheme for Currow, County Kerry, and I am informed by Kerry County Council that they have no proposals in mind for the area at the present time.
