Vol. 234 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on Housing.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the amount of the housing component of the public capital programme in 1956-57 to 1968-69 inclusive in expansion of the Table on page 237 of Economic Development, 1958, subdividing the housing component into expenditure on private houses and public authority houses.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with your permission, A Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

The figures are based as far as possible on audited expenditure. Those for private housing comprise capital expenditure by the State on housing grants and by local authorities on house purchase and reconstruction loans and supplementary housing grants. For the years 1963-64 to 1968-69 inclusive, capital expenditure on housing—of about £1.03 million to £1.75 million a year—by the National Building Agency, Roinn na Gaeltachta and the Shannon Free Airport Development Company, Ltd., is also included.

Is it as long as the reply the Minister has just given?

Yes. If I had to read it out, it would have taken at least as long.

Are they statistics or so-called statistics?

They are very interesting ones which I would be quite prepared to read out.

We will read them.
