Vol. 235 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Abroad.

8.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if any advisory services are provided by Irish diplomatic offices abroad for Irish citizens planning employment abroad.

Information as to visas, employment permits or other legal requirements is supplied by our diplomatic offices abroad on request to Irish citizens interested in employment in the country in question.

Is the Minister aware that there has been a number of inquiries to Irish Embassies for information on employment opportunities in countries abroad and they have received no satisfaction whatever? When I made representations myself on their behalf, I was told that the function of the Embassies was not to provide information such as this. This was told to me by the Minister's Department.

I have told the Deputy that what we do is to give information as to the legal formalities and the legal requirements.

Will the Minister tell his Embassies this?
