Vol. 236 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo-Leitrim Industries.

68.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any industry will start this year in County Leitrim and in County Sligo, as those counties suffer severely from emigration and as employment is very much needed.

I am aware of one proposal for the establishment of a new industrial undertaking and of two proposals for the extension of existing industries in County Sligo. In addition, three proposals for County Sligo have been approved by An Foras Tionscal under the Small Industries Programme. An Foras Tionscal have also approved five proposals for County Leitrim under the Small Industries Programme.

As industrial proposals must be treated as confidential I regret that I am unable to give details. Neither can I indicate, at this stage, how soon production will commence in the case of any of these proposals. The Deputy may rest assured that I am well aware of the need for establishing new industries in Counties Leitrim and Sligo and any sound proposals for the area coming before me will have my most sympathetic consideration.
