asked the Minister for Finance the number of newly built national schools in County Cork in each year since 1960; and if his Department have received any complaints concerning any of these schools regarding bad construction or unsatisfactory finish.

Seventy-three new schools have been built in Cork city and county since 1960 as follows: 1960-61, 8; 1961-62, 10; 1962-63, 7; 1963-64, 7; 1964-65, 8; 1965-66, 10; 1966-67, 12; 1967-68, 9; 1968-69, 2.

It will take about three weeks to collect the other information sought and when I receive it I will write to the Deputy.

The backlog is increasing?

On the contrary, the backlog is being caught up with rapidly.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to commence work on the erection of a new classroom at Carrigaline girls' national school, County Cork.

Tenders for the construction of the additional classroom at this school are due on 21st November, 1968, and a contract will be placed as soon as possible thereafter.
