Vol. 237 No. 7

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Milk Powder Markets.

44.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what is the present position regarding demand and price in the export markets for milk powder; and what the export prospects are likely to be for this produce in the coming years.

While there has been some improvement recently in the low prices that have been prevailing on the British market for skim milk powder, demand in that market continues to be rather slow. Continental countries offer no market at present for imports of skim powder. There is a reasonably steady demand on other markets but the prices obtaining are low. In the case of full-cream milk powder, also, export markets are not strong.

It is not possible to forecast demand and price conditions for milk powder for some years ahead but the current situation as regards supplies of dairy products generally on world markets is not encouraging.
