Vol. 237 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Garda Station.

77.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is his intention to erect a Garda station in the Ballyfermot area, Dublin; and when it is likely that work will commence.

The answer is "Yes". The preparation of detailed working drawings for the new station has not yet been completed in the Office of Public Works. I am informed that bills of quantities are being prepared, and, as far as can be foreseen at present, tenders for the work will be invited before the end of the present financial year.

Could the Minister say why it has taken so many years to get to this point?

If the Deputy were sufficiently interested, he might have put down a question and asked me. Offhand, I do not know what the reason is.

Would the Minister ensure that he will expedite the erection of this garda station and ensure that plans will go through as quickly as possible so that a station will be built in the area at the earliest possible moment?

Long before Deputy Dowling appeared there, this was being pushed.

If Deputy Clinton will restrain his belated interest in this matter——

Do not try to get that across. The records will show the position.

We are pressing the Office of Public Works, who are our agents in this matter, to get on with the work as expeditiously as possible.

I am surprised at the Minister for Justice who is helping Deputy Dowling's belated interest.

I shall look after Ballyfermot from now on.
