Vol. 237 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Underground Car Parking.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance if any progress has been made on the suggestion of a former Member of this House that underground car-parking be provided under St. Stephen's Green.

A proposal put forward some years ago for the construction of an underground car park at St. Stephen's Green was not approved by the Commissioners of Public Works as it would seriously interfere with the amenities of the Green which the Commissioners are under a statutory obligation to preserve.

Legal advice obtained indicated that any scheme for a car park in the Green would conflict with the terms of the Saint Stephen's Green Act, 1877.

The proposal was abandoned.
