Vol. 237 No. 13

Written Answers. - County Wicklow Speed Limit.

172.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that there is a desire that the speed limit zone at Kilcoole, County Wicklow, will be extended to the road north of the boy's school and south of the junction of the main road with Montieth Park and will also include the full length of the Sea road; and if he will have this proposal examined.

A 30 m.p.h. speed limit at Kilcoole was imposed for the first time under the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) (County of Wicklow) Regulations, 1968, which came into operation on the 1st November last. The limit extends along the main road through the village for a distance of 760 yards and south of the junction with Montieth Park. Sea or Station Road is not included since it is narrow, has very sparse development and carries little or no traffic except in summer time. The Boys' School is on a side road which junctions with the main road at a point a ¼ mile from the speed limit signs north of the village. There is a footpath from the village to the junction. I am satisfied that the limit applied covers the built-up area of Kilcoole adequately.
