asked the Minister for Local Government (a) the total amount collected each year from 1955 to the latest year for which figures are available from each county in rates and (b) the rate in the £1 in each county during the same period.
The amounts collected in rates by each county council and the rate in the pound for each county, in respect of the years 1955-56 to 1965-66, are given in the returns of local taxation for those years. Details of the rate in the pound of each county council in 1966-67 and 1967-68 were included in my reply to Question No. 21 of 1st June, 1967. The balance of the information sought is in the form of a tabular statement which I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.
Following is the Statement:—

(Cavan): Are we to take it now that where information is available in official documents the Minister does not intend in the future to give it here in reply to a Parliamentary question? That seems, in effect, to be the Minister's answer?
It is the usual practice, when information is readily available to Deputies, to direct their attention to where it is readily available rather than take up the time of the House unnecessarily in giving it here.
(Cavan): I submit the practice has been down through the years to give a reply to a Parliamentary question and furnish the information sought even if it is available in another document.
I have not got information, simple information, he promised me on the 29th October last yet?
That is not simple.
It is as simple as anything.
It is not.
One telephone call to each county.
No.
Perhaps, they do not pay any attention to the Minister either.
Question No. 87 postponed.
