Vol. 240 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issues of Commemorative Stamps.

19.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he intends making any arrangements for the issue in 1972 of special stamps to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the State in 1922; and, if so, if he will consider commemorating in a special way General Michael Collins and Arthur Griffith.

The subjects for special postage-stamp issues in 1972 are not due to be considered until 1971.

As the Deputy is aware, a special postage-stamp was issued this year to mark the 50th Anniversary of the first meeting of the First Dáil Éireann, an event which is regarded as marking the establishment of the State.

20.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, on the occasion of the tercentenary of the appointment of Blessed Oliver Plunkett to the See of Armagh as archbishop, he will issue a special stamp to commemorate the event.

As the programme of postage-stamp issues for 1969 is already full it would not be possible to include a stamp to commemorate the event in question.
