Vol. 243 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licensed Moneylenders.

55.

asked the Minister for Justice how the operation of licensed moneylenders is supervised.

The Moneylenders Acts, 1900 and 1933, contain no provision for direct supervision over the day-to-day operation of licensed moneylenders. The Acts provide, however, that a licensed moneylender has to obtain, each year, a district court certificate of personal suitability, and the granting of such a certificate may be opposed by any resident in the court area or by the Garda Síochána.
