Vol. 245 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Teachers.

84.

asked the Minister for Education if he will ensure that within a reasonable time all teachers who are paid by cheque shall receive an itemised statement on each occasion of the gross amount due, how it is made up and what deductions have been made.

Salary cheques for national school teachers and secondary school teachers are issued by my Department. The salary cheques for vocational teachers are issued by the local vocational education committee.

As far as the national school teachers are concerned it is the practice to include particulars of deductions in the normal salary payments issued monthly.

Secondary school teachers are paid quarterly with two monthly advances of approximately eight per cent of the net annual salary. The deductions are made in the final payment for each quarter and are shown in an itemised statement attached to the quarterly salary cheque.
