Vol. 246 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hotel Charges.

23.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the average increase in price for bed and breakfast in Bord Fáilte registered first and second grade hotels for the years 1964 and 1969; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the information requested:

AVERAGE Increases in Bed and Breakfast Charges (High Season) as compiled by Bord Fáilte.

Period: 1964-1969

With Bath

Without Bath

Grade A*Hotels

24.9 per cent

39.6 per cent

Grade A Hotels

21.2 per cent

23.3 per cent

All Hotel Grades

20 per cent

24.9 per ce

Note: The increase in the consumer price index over the period 1964/69 was 25.5 per cent.

Could the Minister give me the figures, please? There are only two figures involved here, the increase in price for two years.

In the period 1964-1969 the increase for grade A hotels with baths is 21.2 per cent and without baths 23.3 per cent. I may say that the increase in the consumer price index over the same period was 25.5 per cent, so the effect is the very same.
