The numbers on the live register at the Wexford employment exchange at the dates specified were as follows:—

9 ,, 1970

711

8 ,, 1971

844

There is an obvious sense of high tension among the Fianna Fáil Party this afternoon. Why, I do not know.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary make any comment on the increase in unemployment during the period in question? Is it not a situation repeated all over the country?

The number of redundancies in the malting and furniture trades is reflected in these figures but are not reflected throughout the country.

Is there any indication that any effort will be made by the Government to try to ensure that unemployment will be decreased?

Every effort is being made.

Which effort? Do not give us the First, Second and Third Programmes, or the EEC.
