Vol. 252 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answer. - Public Service Widows' Salaries.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the hardship imposed on widows employed in the public service who receive the same salary as a single man and have to rear a family; and if he will ensure that in future such widows receive the same salary as a married man.

A claim seeking this type of adjustment for widows reinstated in the civil service was dealt with in 1969 under the conciliation and arbitration scheme for the civil service. The agreed settlement took the form of granting a pensionable allowance subject to certain conditions. This arrangement applies to reinstated widows generally, including those in the category mentioned in the question.
