asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Kerry County Council have completed the investigation of a large number of proposals under the local improvements scheme grants but that, owing to the lack of finance, cannot implement them; and, if so, if he will now consider making a substantial grant available to have work on these schemes undertaken.

I am aware that Kerry County Council, in common with a number of other councils, expects to have a number of applications for grants under the local improvements scheme outstanding at the end of this financial year.
It would not be practicable to dispose of all eligible applications in a single year: there must be a phased programme over a number of years. The current year's allocations for County Kerry shows an increase on the previous year. The allocation for 1971/72 will be determined in the light of the overall provision permissible having regard to the needs of other urgent services, and the relative demand for grants in each county.
