Vol. 252 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishery Inspectors' Superannuation Scheme.

35.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what steps he has taken to provide a superannuation scheme for fishery inspectors and assistant inspectors serving in the 17 fishery board districts in the Republic; and if he has had regard to the fact that many of them have given a lifetime of service to fishery protection.

I have under consideration legislation which will provide, inter alia, for a superannuation scheme for supervisory staffs of boards of fishery conservators with suitable service.

In view of the fact that practically all public employees, even State employees, are now on superannuation schemes, would the Parliamentary Secretary say why this scheme which he is talking about is being confined to supervisory staff?

The Deputy will be aware that any superannuation scheme would apply only to the permanent staff and at the moment we have not any permanent staff as such employed by the boards of conservators.

Surely the Parliamentary Secretary is joking? My union has a considerable number of members who are employed by the boards of conservators all of whom are permanent staff employed all the year round. Would the Parliamentary Secretary have another look at this?

The question does not relate to the people the Deputy has in mind.

That is my reading of the reply to the question.

The question here concerns fishery inspectors and assistant inspectors.

Does that include permanent staff?

That is a separate question.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary agree to have a look at that before a Bill is brought into this House?
